MSOC Recap | Sept. 15, 2018 vs UFV

On a chilly Saturday, the Mount Royal Cougars and Fraser Valley Cascades gathered to face off. Trudging through wet grass, the Cascades enjoyed an emphatic 3-0 victory. Cougars forward Jake Vickers thought the team's slow start cost them. "Today the Cascades came out quickly with an early goal and left us behind trying to catch up," Vickers said, "next time we'll have to be ready to go from the start." The Cascades kicked off the first 5 minutes of the game with an immediate goal against the Cougars, which was the first of three scored by Gurmaan Jhaj. Several other shots were aimed at the Cougars net, but the ball only danced around the net. A little later on a penalty kick was given to the Cascades but Cougars' goalkeeper Kyran Valley made the save. The Cascades dominated the first portion of the game, with the majority of the action meters away from the Cougars net. As the game progressed the Cougars seemed to find their bearings, and the game started to travel freely from end to end. The Cougars efforts culminated with a great shot on the Cascades net which was met with a great save. Tensions in the first half then erupted with a fight which had to be separated by the referees after a Cascades player was stamped on. Frustrations continued to grow and it seemed the yelling on the field grew louder than the whistles. Another goal for the Cascades was scored by Jhaj and despite the Cougars great effort, the Cascades goalkeeper refused to let a ball past the line. The half finished 2-0 in favour of the visitors. The two teams seemed evenly matched during the second half, though shots remained majorly aimed at the Cougars net, until a penalty kick was again awarded to the Cascades. Jhaj tucked it in, earning himself a hat-trick and bringing the score to 3-0. The Booster Juice Players of the game were Gurmaan Jhaj from the Cascades and Daniel Harrison from the Cougars. The Cascades head north to play the University of Alberta tomorrow at 2:15 PM. While the next game for the Cougars is back at home tomorrow at 1:30 PM against the UBCO Heat.
