Chivas El Paso Patriots gain three more points with win over Grandes

El Paso, July 9- Breakaway goals by Michael Griego in the ninth minute and by Enrique Cervantes in the 19th created an insurmountable lead for the Chivas El Paso Patriots playing at home in search of clinching the Mid-South Division. The 2-0 first half lead held up until the 79th minute when Ramon Rodriguez headed home a consolation goal. The visiting Grandes less key players such as forwards Juan Nava and Ariel Barraza due to injuries and lacking starting defender Omar Apodaca couldn't match up with the home team and finished the road trip without winning a point also having lost the night before at Midland 2-1 versus the West Texas United Sockers. The Grandes have away and home matches left versus the Laredo Heat before closing out their maiden season as an expansion team. Chivas lacks a single point to clinch the division title. They will play the Laredo Heat at home on July 23rd.
