2008 Metal Universe Precious Metal Gems PMG Green Kobe Bryant JSY # 08/10 BGS 9

BGS Pop 1 of 4 - One Graded Higher - Jersey # Serial After PMG’s iconic late 90s run, it re-emerged from the collecting abyss for a brief arrival in 2008-09 Skybox Metal Universe. After Upper Deck acquired Fleer-Skybox in 2005, Upper Deck made their first attempt at re-establishing the iconic PMG brand. They brought back the original color scheme, with both red and green versions—this time, however, they limited the reds to only 50 with the greens occupying the first ten. This issue offers even more condition challenges than its '97 counterpart—a surprising reality given that the '97 issue suffers from a laundry list of condition issues. The '08 production most commonly presents heavy front surface cracking and chipping, which further speaks to the extreme rarity of high-grade copies. Released as a 100-card set, Upper Deck packed this rare insert with stars, headlined by Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. Our December Premier Auction offers four of the finest examples from the issue, featuring a PMG Green and PMG Red example of Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan. The PMG Green Kobe Bryant offered occupies the 08/50 serial stamp, matching Kobe’s jersey number which he wore for the first ten years of his career. Encapsulated within a Beckett 9 holder, presenting subgrades: centering 9.0, corners 9.5, edges 8.5, and surfaces 9.5. The delicate surface is void of common cracking with extraordinary color, clarity, and registration. Light chipping to the periphery keeps this card from grading higher. Without an auto or game used element, these PMGs are a true card in purists' eyes which is an attribute people increasingly prefer and treasure (especially during this era's auto patch overload). These cards rank at the very top among all issues in all eras and represent some of our markets most cherished pieces. Impossible to replace and worthy of the very finest investment minded portfolio. Comes with PWCC's highest recommended.
