#GEOSUPER - Race to the PSL final: Gritty Islamabad United up against formidable Peshawar Zalmi - 15 March 2019. KARACHI: It is now or never. Islamabad United face Peshawar Zalmi in the second eliminator of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) on Friday as the teams battle it out at Karachi’s National Stadium for a place in Sunday’s final. In a repeat of last year’s final, table topper’s Zalmi take on United who defeated Karachi Kings on Thursday night by four wickets. In a truly epic encounter, in which Islamabad chased down Karachi's 161 with three balls to spare, Alex Hales scored a 41 and Asif Ali remained unbeaten on 24 as Kings were thrown out of the tournament. On the other hand, the Darren Sammy led-Peshawar were handed a ten run defeat at hands of Gladiators, after Shane Watson's scored a brilliant half-century and a 1-10 last over bowling to seal the team's third PSL final in four years. Head to head PSL 2016 This is not the first time the teams are meeting in the eliminator stage of the tournament. The teams met in the second eliminator game of the inaugural edition of the PSL. A magnificent maiden century by Sharjeel Khan proved too good for Zalmi as United registered an easy 50 run victory to reach the final against Quetta Gladiators. Chasing down a massive 177 run target set by Islamabad, Zalmi were bowled out for 126 with two full overs to go. Kamran Akmal with a 32-ball 45 and the then Zalmi captain Shahid Afridi with 38 runs off 17 deliveries were the only two notable contributions by the Zalmi batsmen. Islamabad went on to win their maiden PSL title against Quetta that year. PSL 2017 The two teams did not meet in the playoff stage of the tournament in 2017, as Islamabad were knocked out in the first eliminator by Karachi. Peshawar, on the other hand, defeated Quetta in the final to life their maiden title, handing Quetta their second consecutive defeat in a PSL final. PSL 2018 Last year the two sides met in the final at Karachi’s National Stadium. United dominated with the bat and ball as they defeated Zalmi by three wickets to lift the trophy for a second time.
