June 30, 2021 - Germany recorded the first win at the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Split. They held off Mexico for 1-0 record in Group A. Joshiko Saibou (187-PG-90) provided 17 points in the win. Mexico got off to a quicker start. They grabbed a 22-19 lead ten minutes into the game. Germany cut the deficit at 2-point mark at the big break 40-42. But Mexico stayed in front throughout the third term. They established a 67-62 advantage at the final intermission. Germany tipped off the fourth period on a 9-1 run to surge ahead. Andreas Obst (191-G-96) gave the European team a 76-71 lead midway through the quarter. Germany boosted the lead to 7 points and hung on to secure the victory. Isaac Bonga (204-SG-99) accounted for 13 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Francisco Cruz (191-SG-89, college: Wyoming) answered with game-high 30 points for Mexico.
