JUBILANT LAGOS FANS IN FRENZY AS NIGERIA DEFEATS ICELAND

The Super Eagles of Nigeria recorded their first victory at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Russia by defeating Iceland 2 goals to nil at the Volvograd Arena on Friday. CSKA Moscow's Ahmed Musa struck twice (49', 75') to give the West Africa giant a deserved victory over the compact-playing Europeans who drew (1-1) their first match against Argentina. In Lagos, Nigerian fans who watched the game at different locations across the state, celebrated their National team's victory in different ways. Drumming, singing and praises for the Super Eagles were not in short supply, depicting the deep love and passion that Nigerians have for the game. Some of the fans think with the victory, Nigeria can face and defeat any opposition in the World Cup. The victory against Iceland, puts Nigeria who lost their opening game against Croatia 2-0, in the second position after the Europeans with six points. Croatia won their second match against Argentina 3-0 on Thursday at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium. Iceland with one point from two games are in third place while Argentina also with one point from two games, are placed bottom of the table Nigeria will face Argentina on Tuesday in their last group D match at the Krestovsky Stadium in St Petersburg in a game in which the two teams need to take points away to remain in the global football competition.
