Around the Leagues in Bare Feet - Part 59: QPR vs Barnsley 20th Jun 2020

Football is back! That's what they're all saying. And yes, sure enough I checked the fixture list and indeed the QPR Barnsley game, the postponement of which was the start of pandemic related lockdown for me, went ahead today. So you can imagine how excited I was to get down to the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium and take my seat again and watch my team. Oh yes! In all seriousness, this is satire, not clickbait. I am actually very angry that these games are going ahead before it's safe for fans to return. Why the leagues are so desperate to get results recorded now is a mystery to me. It's not as if it'll be safe to start next season as normal in August, so there wouldn't be time to run a full football season between August 2020 and May 2021 anyway. So why not just cancel that season, wait until it's safe to play the remaining games of this one, whether that means Novemember 2020 or even January 2021, and then be in a great position to start a proper full season in August 2021. But apparently not. Apparently the games themselves don't matter. The fans don't matter. The players don't matter. Stopping the spread of the virus through contact between players and ensuing chains of people doesn't matter. Only getting results logged matters. Don't worry about the fact that fans have been looking forward to the rescheduling of the games whose cancellation marked the start of an extremely difficult period in their lives, and certainly don't worry about how much of a carrot it was to be able to look forward to sitting in their seats and watching those games to mark life picking up where it left off, finally back to normal. So yes I'm very angry. But I took the opportunity to have a bit of fun. In this video I'm making fun of the idea that what happened today could possibly serve the purpose of a football match. I'm also making fun of myself and how it's not football for me unless I've travelled barefoot to the stadium and watched the game played right in front of my eyes. And I'm making fun of Youtube reaction video channels, and of course I'm making fun of TV and Televised Football in particular.
