GET READY TO EXPERIENCE OUR BACKCOUNTRY ESCAPADE AND SHARE THE JOURNEY! First Week: Family Adventures The first week was with my brother, nephew, and great nephew. Backpack hiking deep into the woods to one of my favorite lakes, we found a camping spot tucked into the forest trees. After settling in, we went down to the water and started hooking splake (mackinaw brook hybrid) and cutbow (cuttthroat rainbow hybrid). Luck would have it, catching several thick ones and then cooking them for dinner that night. The next day was special, with my great nephew landing the biggest one of his young life. We deep fried it—yum! More Venturing Overnight was wonderful. My brother and great nephew left the mountains and headed home, and my nephew and I backpacked to a tiny high altitude lake where we set up our tents. We arose to a crisp morning, hopeful for some personal best brook trout, which this pond delivered. That evening was an amazing all-you-can-eat fish-fry. Rising with the sun, we ate the rest of the massive wigglers before our hike. My nephew headed home, and I continued alone on a remote secret trail to explore fresh territory. The new country was pristine. I set up my tent in an open meadow that looked like mountain paradise. Morning couldn't come soon enough, with magnificent scenery to be videoed as well as a small meandering creek with hungry occupants. The big Colorado cuts were just out of spawn, having a striking crimson color, and the brookies had spunk and girth. What a superb time, topped off by eating a delicious meal. Solo Exploration and Meeting a Friend Up at dawn and trekking to a mystery place, which will remain so for its survival. Along the way, I met my friend who joined me. It was a tough trek to these waters, but we took the challenge and made it to this hidden spot. Once there, we eagerly set up and started fishing, hooking a plethora of wild tigers and beautiful cuts with crankbait and dry fly. These were some of the most unbelievable moments, landing a bunch of epic trophy tigers and a huge one for the history books!
