Episode 14 of SportsTalk 757, the web series produced by the Hampton Roads Sports Commission, featured former Virginia Tech and NFL standout and current Virginia Beach City Councilman Aaron Rouse. Born in Norfolk and raised in Virginia Beach, Rouse starred on the gridiron locally at First Colonial High School before a stellar career at Virginia Tech. Rouse was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the 2007 National Football League Draft and also played for the New York Giants and Arizona Cardinals. After retiring from the NFL, Rouse returned home to Virginia Beach to begin his career in public service. He served as a coach and a mentor before founding Rouse’s House, a non-profit organization with a primary goal of exposing youth and families in the community to a broader world of learning. On November 6, 2018, Rouse made history when he was elected to Virginia Beach City Council, representing the largest populated city in the Commonwealth of Virginia as the youngest African American to be elected. Rouse joined Hampton Roads Sports Commission Executive Director Claudell Clark to discuss a wide range of topics, including Rouse’s playing and political careers and the economic impact of sports to the city of Virginia Beach and Hampton Roads region.
