Kyrie Irving is a professional basketball player who currently plays for the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was born on March 23, 1992 in Melbourne, Australia and grew up in West Orange, New Jersey. Irving played college basketball for Duke University before being selected as the first overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers. Throughout his career, Irving has been known for his scoring ability and ball handling skills. He has won numerous awards and accolades, including being named an All-Star six times, winning the NBA Rookie of the Year award in 2012, and being named to the All-NBA Third Team twice. In 2016, Irving helped lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to their first NBA championship, scoring a game-winning three pointer in Game 7 of the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors. He was named the Finals MVP for his performance in the series. After six seasons with the Cavaliers, Irving was traded to the Boston Celtics in 2017. He played two seasons in Boston before signing with the Brooklyn Nets in 2019. Irving is also a member of the United States national team and won a gold medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Off the court, Irving is known for his philanthropic efforts and his interest in social justice issues. He has been active in promoting mental health awareness and has worked with organizations such as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
