As Chelsea began the new Super Cup season by defeating Villarreal with a score of 6-5 after a draw and later on by penalties, Kepa Arrizabalaga stood as the new hero of the team winning the UEFA Super Cup in Belfast. Since joining the club, the Spaniard lost his number one position making a world record fee in 2018 as a goalkeeper, was brought in the match as a replacement for covering the shootout by Thomas Tuchel. Two years ago, it was a popular talk when Kepa refused to be replaced in a defeat in the League Cup Final by Maurizio Sarri, former Chelsea boss. However, the case was different this time as Kepa was successful in saving from Raul Albiol and Aissa Mandi and gained the trust of his manager back. According to Tuchel the plan was designed and formulated in the last season of the FA cup as he indicated that the act was not spontaneous.
