DragonsTV Highlights - Men's Basketball - Drexel vs. St. Joe's

Philadelphia – Damion Lee's three-pointer came up short in the final seconds as Saint Joseph's defeated Drexel in the Dragons' home opener, 52-49. Drexel (0-2) tied the game at 47-47 on a short jumper with just over three minutes to play. The Hawks (1-1) missed a three-pointer on the following trip, but retained possession when Isaiah Miles grabbed his own rebound. However, Miles turned it over seconds later, giving the Dragons the ball. Drexel had a good look at the basket but Rodney Williams couldn't convert the lay-in and the Hawks went ahead for good when Aaron Brown drove to the basket for a lay-up. Drexel had an opportunity to tie, but Tavon Allen was called for a travel with just 58 seconds left on the clock. Miles was then fouled and made one of two to put the Hawks ahead by three with :29 left. Lee and Shavar Newkirk each sank a pair of free throws as the lead remained three in the final seconds. After a timeout, the Dragons were able to get the ball to Lee for a long three-pointer, but it bounced off the win and sent the capacity crowd home disappointed. Drexel led by as many as seven in the second half after London made a pair of buckets to give the Dragons a 36-29 cushion. However, the Dragons would go for almost six minutes without a field goal after that. The Hawks went on a 12-0 run, keyed by a number of Drexel turnovers, to take a 41-36 lead. The Dragons would not lead again after the run. Lee led the way for Drexel with 23 points, including 13 in the second half. The junior was 9-for-9 from the foul line. Drexel shot 34 percent from the floor and committed 14 turnovers. The Hawks didn't fare much better, making 35 percent of their shots and sinking just one of 11 long-range attempts. DeAndre' Bembry led the way with 13 points, eight boards, three steals and three blocks. James Demry had 12 points, while Brown was also in double figures with 12 points. Drexel's attempt for its first win of the season won't be easy as the Dragons face Miami (Fla.) in the opening round of the Charleston Classic. The Hurricanes defeated No. 8 Florida on Monday night in Gainesville.
