South Alabama defeated Southern Miss in its season-opener for the second consecutive year, spoiling Head Coach Will Hall’s debut with a 31-7 victory. Lowe threw for a total of 133 yards on 29 attempts completing 13 passes. Lowe would throw two interceptions as one was returned for a pick-six with 44 seconds remaining in the game. Trey would score the Golden Eagles' only touchdown, which was on a one-yard rush as he rushed for 55 yards on 18 attempts.
