Late in a May 17 game against the Minnesota Twins, Yermin Mercedes stepped to the plate for the Chicago White Sox. Despite his team having a huge lead, Mercedes clocked a soft pitch for a home run, which led to White Sox manager Tony La Russa publically chiding the rookie and saying there would be consequences. Consequences? For doing your job? Really? La Russa has lost touch with the modern game. The White Sox are winning and leading AL Central. Mercedes only has six home runs in his career. La Russa looks like a fool in this situation. Mercedes did nothing wrong, and Tim Anderson took the right approach to things on Instagram. The game wasn't over, so Mercedes kept playing. This isn't tee-ball.
