As Scotland put an end to their year with a fantastic 29-20 win over Japan on Saturday at Murrayfield, a new national try scoring record was set by Staurt Hogg. Since the Brave Bossoms knocked out the Japanese in the 2019 World Cup, out of one of the four scored by Scotland was the 25th Test try of the captain in their initial meeting with Japan. The first meeting had also witnessed as sole possession of a Scotland try-scoring record was taken by full-back Hogg. The record was shared with Tony Stanger and Ian Smith. With this victory, two of the four matches of Scotland in the autumn series were won by team Scotland with successful matches against Australia and Tonga after the 30-15 defeat against South Africa, the world champions that took place last week.
