Eastern Washington Eagles' Austin McBroom Player of the Week

Eastern Washington senior guard Austin McBroom earned Big Sky Conference men's basketball Player of the Week honors after a record-setting week. The Los Angeles, Calif., native scored the most points in back-to-back games in EWU history with 72 points in two wins. McBroom scored a career-high 37 points in the Eagles' 97-80 win over Northern Colorado on Saturday. The senior hit 10-of-16 from the field, 7-of-12 from beyond the arc and 10-of-11 from the free-throw line to earn his second straight game with 35 or more points. In Thursday's 95-85 win over North Dakota, he posted 35 points on 9-of-17 from the field with five 3-pointers. He also hit 12-of-14 from the charity stripe and dished out five assists against the Fighting Hawks. McBroom finished the week with 11 assists and 10 rebounds to go along with his 72 points. McBroom made 19-of-33 shots (58 percent), 12-of-20 3-pointers (60 percent) and 22-of-25 free throws (88 percent) in the sweep. McBroom is averaging a Big Sky-best 21.3 points per game, which is also 14th in NCAA Division I. His scoring average currently ranks as the fifth-best in school history and his 511 total points are already 12th. In addition, his average of 3.71 3-pointers per game leads the league and is third nationally. McBroom also later became the third player in conference history to be named National Player of the Week by the United States Basketball Writers Association.
