Local favorites Mohammedan Sporting Club knocked out defending champions Gokulam Kerala FC out of the 130th Durand Cup and booked their place in the semifinals at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, a. k. a. Salt Lake Stadium. The Black Panthers defeated the Malabarians by 1-0 goals. In the latter part of the first half, the former Malabarian forward Marcus Joseph netted the ball and scored a solitary goal in favor of Mohammedan Sporting Club, thus securing their place in the semifinals. Zothanmawia, the keeper of the Mohammedan Sporting Club, bagged the Man of the Match award. On September 27, Mohammedan Sporting Club will face FC Bengaluru United in the first semifinal. The second Quarter-Final match between FC Bengaluru United and Army Red, which was to be held on September 24th, has been canceled because the latter team pulled themselves out of the tournament as one of their members tested positive for COVID-19. Asia’s oldest football tournament, the Durand Cup, is back again with a tough fight between the sixteen teams. This is the 130th edition of the tournament.
