Ahead of this mega auction, the talk of the town has been about MS Dhoni. As per the rules laid down by the BCCI, an uncapped player can be retained by the side for a mere price of Rs. 4 Crore. And now the IPL Chief has come on to defend BCCI’s decision claiming the rule hasn’t been brought as an exception for MS Dhoni. Players who have retired for more than five years can be retained as uncapped players. However, this rule is only applicable to retired Indian players. And since MS Dhoni retired from international cricket in 2019 after the ODI World Cup, he is eligible to be retained as an uncapped player should Chennai Super Kings (CSK) decide to. “When it comes to strategy or planning for a match, there is nobody better than Dhoni. Whether he is uncapped or capped, every franchise would want to pick Dhoni, no matter what price he is available for. I don’t think so that this uncapped player is an exception for MS Dhoni,” IPL chief Arun Dhumal told Rediff. The IPL chief made it clear that the rule hasn’t been introduced as an exception for Dhoni. He claimed others like Piyush Chawla and Amit Mishra too would be benefiting from the rule. And lastly, Dhumal claimed that this rule has been introduced for players who continue to show the passion and spirit of the game even after retiring from the international stage.
