THE I-69 PLAYOFF SERIES! Komets vs Indy Fuel: Game 5 (May 3rd, 2026)

Hey hey! Finally! A Komet Hockey playoff video! You all can stop asking and wondering, I finally did a Komets Playoff game. It’s the Month of May, the Umamusumes did their running down in Louisville over the past weekend, which means we’re officially in my favorite time of year. Indy 500 Month, and the Komets are still playing hockey! Like last year, this video is all business (‘all’ is a subjective term…) let’s get into it. In the first round the Komets will take on the Indy “Fishers” Fuel. The first time the I-69 (nice) Rivalry has taken place in the postseason, in 1990-91 in the quarter finals of the Turner Cup playoffs. That series was full of carnage on the ice and in the stands with fans roughing up with each other and going the distance in seven games. That year was the First season of the Franke owned Komets which was critical to make a deep run. In which the Komets went all the way to the Finals before losing in six games to the Peoria (make them an ECHL franchise gosh darn it.) Rivermen. Nothing quite beats the atmosphere and energy of Playoff hockey, doesn’t matter what the level is. Guys will lay the body on the line to have a date with “The Cup.” This year’s iteration well, let’s be blunt about it, isn’t likely to go the distance. The Fort Wayne Komets, Central Division Regular Season Champs, have a 3-1 strangle hold on the series with chance to clinch the series in tonight’s game in five. In which that would be awesome to see a handshake line in this video…Indy is just a mere bump in the road for the Komets. The real goal is to get back at those darn fish (barring a reverse sweep by the Bison) in the Division Finals. Toledo dumped the Komets out of the Playoffs last year in the 2nd round in painstaking fashion. So, revenge is on the mind of the Komets. Meanwhile, The Indy Fuel got their ticket to the playoffs on the final day of the regular season when the Komets helped The Fuel out by winning in regulation against Kalamazoo in game 72. That 1 point was the gap between Playoffs or not. A Kalamazoo OTL point would have had Indy booking their tee times at the Purgatory Golf Club via tiebreaker. (yes, that’s a real course in the 317, a fantastic course too, I’ve played it last summer!) The Fuel franchise has never won a playoff series in its inception in 2014. One of, if not, the longest active drought in the ECHL. For that to happen this year would take some great defensive effort and some luck to win it in seven games. (If that were to happen, that would result in a nuclear meltdown of yours truly.) First we got to play the game(s) and see what happens. Not sure what’s going to happen on the channel next, either more Komet Playoff hockey or I have a little treat in the vault. It is the Month of May, so expect an Indy 500 video(s) this month!
