The Vegas Golden Knights defeated the San Jose Sharks 2-1 in the first game of the team's two-game series. Marc Andre-Fleury and Devan Dubnyk started in goal for their two teams. Both goaltenders played well enough to give their teams a chance to win, and the Golden Knights took advantage of their opportunities. Max Pacioretty scored on a Vegas powerplay halfway through the first period, and while the Sharks were controlling the play, the Knights found themselves leading after one. In the second period, the Golden Knights put their feet on the gas, outshooting the Sharks 16-4 in the second frame. Then, early in the third period, Mark Stone scored from Pacioretty to increase the Golden Knight lead to 2. San Jose did pressure though and cut the deficit in half with less than 6 minutes remaining after a Meier goal. In the last two minutes, there were a couple of close calls, but the Golden Knights held on. Vegas is four points ahead of second place in the West division, and while his team lost tonight, Devan Dubnyk played great. These two teams will face off against one another again on Wednesday.
