IPL 2020 | IPL Latest News | Mega or mini IPL auction in 2021? | Tamil Cricket News | IPL News Tamil Mega or mini IPL auction in 2021? BCCI president Sourav Ganguly provides major update BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has provided a major update regarding the IPL player auction next year ahead of the conclusion of the ongoing season in UAE. With the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 heading toward its business end, teams who are out of the tournament are already thinking about strengthening their squads for the upcoming season which will be staged next year. The likes of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) are the teams who will be looking forward to the player auction next year in order to add steel to their respective squads. While KXIP might let go of some big names ahead of the next season, CSK are planning to rebuild their squad almost from scratch and change their core for IPL 2021. Shane Watson has already announced his retirement from all forms of cricket and will not play IPL next year. The likes of Kedar Jadhav, Piyush Chawla, Karn Sharma, and Murali Vijay could be among the players who are released by CSK next year. However, CSK's plans will depend heavily on whether BCCI will allow a full mega auction or a mini-auction next year. Earlier this year, there were reports that the mega auction which was scheduled to take place ahead of IPL 2021 is likely to be scrapped. However, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly recently revealed that the board has not yet taken a final call on the auction. “We haven’t decided anything yet. Let this season conclude, we will take a call,” BCCI president Ganguly was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times on being asked about player auction next year. Ganguly also insisted that the BCCI is keen on conducting the next edition of the tournament in India if the situation in the country is under control and a vaccine is in place. UAE will remain BCCI's back-up option for IPL 2021 if the tournament cannot be conducted in India. The next season is likely to begin in April or May next year. “Hopefully the vaccine will be out by that time and we can host it,” said Ganguly on hosting IPL 2021 in India.
