While the home fans were allowed to watch a Bundesliga match in person for the first time since coronavirus restrictions were imposed in March, no away supporters were permitted to attend in order to prevent the spread of the virus. Supporter numbers were capped at 5,000, with attendees required to wear a mouth-and-nose covering when moving about the stadium, and also while seated if conditions didn't allow for social distancing. "Obviously it is amazing that we can go back inside the stadium," said one supporter before expressing his hope that if all went well, more fans would be able to attend in future. Fans of the Iron Union unfortunately were not in for a victorious beginning to the Bundesliga, as their side went on to be beaten 3-1 by their Bavarian opponents.
