Brazilian forward Bruno Mendes put Cerezo in front right on half-time, but a Takuma Nishimura second-half brace gave Sendai a 2-1 lead. Defender Matej Jonjic equalised in the 82nd minute and substitute Hiroshi Kiyotake scored a memorable injury-time winner to break Sendai hearts.
