NBA players keep disrespecting Stephen Curry, but why? @MJPLAYSALLDAY STREAMING RN, making Steph Curry in NBA 2K23 TikTok- https://www.tiktok.com/@mj_allday Twitter- @MJ2KALLDAY Steph Curry is not dominant…not in the traditional sense and for some reason, NBA players haven’t caught on. Curry is just catching strays. People are stunned to even put Curry in the conversation as the best player in the NBA right now. He’s getting disrespected by peers and NBA legends and it’s because he’s not 6’ 6”. And I stand by it. But while I was saying this in respect to the media underrating Curry, this is similar to how other NBA players are seeing it. They’ve accepted him as the greatest shooter of all time, but even that is limiting what Curry is. Give props to Shaq for giving Giannis his props early, saying he’s the best player in the world after winning a championship, and now saying Curry is the best player in the world, but for the most part players, they don’t believe Curry is able to take over the game by himself, that he needs screens, that he needs Draymond and Klay to be Steph. And sure he may not power through people, but did everyone just forget two seasons ago when he led the league in scoring averaging 32 points a game? When he was cooking everyone? Just because Curry runs through a bunch of screens doesn’t mean he also doesn’t score by himself. Curry tends to isolate less than other superstars which is why this conversation even begins. However, Steph does rank as one of the most efficient isolation players in the league. In 2020-2021 for all players averaging over 1 iso possession per game, Steph was 5th in points per iso possession. But the sample size was small simply because of the low iso frequency. It isn’t like he’s not creating shots. Let’s look at Game 4 in the NBA Finals. Moving off-ball, running off screens, these aren’t shots that were just there. These are shots created by Curry running tight routes, catching the ball the right way into the shot. But none of these are isos because Curry didn’t create a shot off the dribble. The Warriors play with a faster pace and move the ball quick, usually ranking top 5 in the NBA. Curry himself prefers to attack quickly so rather than isolate the switch, man just takes the opportunity to cook. But we can even look at something so simple as finishing. Again, Steph is not powering his way through the paint, but what he is doing is being one of the most efficient finishers in the NBA. Again, Curry isn’t a leader in drives per game, more like top 40 in the NBA, still more than a lot of player. Yet he is usually amongst the league leaders in finishing inside the paint, even shooting 70% from the paint in 2016, higher than LeBron. And again, I will always say this, if it was so easy to do what Curry does, constantly run the entire game, juking defenders without the ball, everyone would do it. And because Curry isn’t 6’ 6” or above, his size is a liability which is rightfully so. This isn’t a pound for pound conversation. However we’ve never said that about Kevin Durant while he was winning Finals MVPs. Just a double standard when it comes to Curry but I’ll admit, this is a legitiment claim. However, more players bring up the flaws in Curry’s offensive game. **But what do you think? Is Curry in the conversation for best player in the NBA?**
