Hartford Athletic Coach Harry Watling following Wednesday’s US Open Cup match

Athletic fell 2-1 to Major League Soccer’s New York Red Bulls in the third round of the tournament, Hartford’s first competitive match against a MLS opponent in team history. Goals from Lewis Morgan in the 18th minute and Aaron Long in the 25th put New York up 2-0 at the half. Conor McGlynn tied it for Hartford in the 51st minute after a pass from Danny Barrera. Barrera and Younes Boudadi each had chances to tie it in the final 24 minutes, but weren’t able to. Wethersfield native and UHart alum Jimmy Slayton made six saves for Athletic.
