2014 Upper Deck CFL Montreal Alouettes football cards with Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson & Troy Smith

In 2013, Upper Deck acquired the exclusive rights to produce CFL cards of current players. It issued a 28-card All-Star set that year and released a full set of 180 cards (plus lots of inserts) in 2014. That season, the Montreal Alouettes were a team in transition. After QB Anthony Calvillo was forced to retire due to a concussion suffered midway through the 2013 season, the Alouettes thought they had found their QB of the future when they signed former Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith in August, 2013. Smith showed promise in the latter part of the 2013 season, but was a bust in 2014 and was released in October after completing less than 48% of his passes. Jonathan Crompton ended up taking over the starting QB position and helped turn the Alouettes' season around, as Montreal finished with a 9-9 record after getting off to a 1-7 start. In 2014, the Alouettes also signed former NFL star receiver Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson. It garnered the team a lot of attention from south of the border, but Johnson ended up playing in only 5 games, catching 7 passes for 151 yards and one touchdown (when he hugged one of the officials after he had scored). Upper Deck included both Smith and Johnson in its Star Rookie subset, even though they had already been in the NFL for 4 and 11 seasons, respectively. After finishing in 2nd place in the very weak East Division, The Alouettes trounced the BC Lions 50-17 in the Eastern semi-final, but lost 40-24 to Hamilton in the Eastern final. The cards shown in the video include cards from the regular 180-card set, as well as the O-Pee-Chee Retro inserts and the Game Jersey inserts. The music in the video is "Oceans" by Text Me Records / Bobby Renz.
