5th May 2012 - Hitchin Town F.C players past & present take to Top Field once more. The current first XI are in the yellow home colours, past players in green away. Report: Hitchin Town F.C - The girths may have been a bit thicker and the pace may have come down a gear of two, but Hitchin's past players demonstrated they still have what it takes in an entertaining Canaries' Memorial Game. Predictably, the game ended in a draw, with the two teams sharing six goals. John Frendo gave the current side the lead on 11 minutes but folk hero Marvin Bates levelled after 17 and Arlesey manager Zema Abbey, who played around 100 games for the club between 1998-2000, scored for the past side three minutes later. Ieuan Lewis restored parity in the 27th minute. Marc Leach gave Carl Williams' men the lead on 49 minutes and then Dean Gilbert missed a penalty. The final goal of the morning was scored by Gary Dixon to make it 3-3. An impromptu penalty shoot-out followed, with Jon Bone scoring the winner for the past side. A crowd of 60 people saw the game, donating £230.00 to the Garden House Hospice.
