Newcastle’s game against Tottenham Hotspur was suspended after a fan collapsed in the stands. Newcastle officials confirmed the supporter has been “stabilised” and taken to hospital as the game continued after a 25-minute pause in the game. Tottenham were leading 2-1 before Sergio Reguilon pointed into the crowd in the east stand at St James’ Park. While referee Andre Marriner spoke to stewards in the stand, Tottenham defender Eric Dier ran into the dugouts to seek assistance from club staff. Not long after the stadium announcer said: “Please bear with us there is a medical emergency in the East Stand. We will give further details as and when but please bear with us.” Five minutes passed by before Marriner spoke to stewards again to assess the situation. He then made the decision to suspend the game and asked the players to make their way down the tunnel. The stadium announcer confirmed the players would come out to resume the first half — of which there were seven minutes remaining. The players were given a couple of minutes to warm up before play resumed. The supporter received huge amounts of applause as they were carried out of the stadium. Newcastle took the lead in the opening two minutes through a diving header by Callum Wilson. Tanguy Ndombele equalised for Tottenham 15 minutes later. Harry Kane scored his first Premier League goal of the season to give the visitors the lead before the game was stopped. #footballindepth #newcastle #tottenham #newtot #newcastleunited #tottenhamhotspur #spurs #coys
