Calgary Flames Almost Traded For Taylor Hall? Free Agent Frenzy 2020 Target?

With the New Jersey Devils underachieving in the 2019-20 NHL Regular Season and Taylor Hall becoming a pending unrestricted free agent. Also there's rumours and reports that Taylor Hall wasn't willing to sign a longer term deal or even stay with the New Jersey Devils. The team was looking for a trade partner to get some assets for the scoring forward. While there was many teams interested in acquiring Taylor Hall. Some teams we're offering a futures trade and hockey trade. Futures trade for picks and prospects while a hockey trade is players who can help a team now. Ultimately the New Jersey Devils traded Taylor Hall to the Arizona Coyotes which clearly on the return is a futures trade looks to be a rental as there's no clear word that Taylor Hall wants to stay with the Arizona Coyotes after this season and become a free agent. There was reports and rumours from several sources that the Calgary Flames we're interested and in on a possible Taylor Hall trade which could of had a better return in a hockey type of trade for the New Jersey Devils. While ultimately I'm happy the trade didn't happen for the Calgary Flames. I'm still excited for the possibility that Taylor Hall can be a free agent in July 2020 and feel the Calgary Flames may have the inside chance of signing him. One factor is the need for another scoring forward and the fact he's from Calgary and may want to play for his hometown team. Also would spice up the Battle of Alberta even more as he's a former first overall pick of the Edmonton Oilers back in 2010. I ask do you think the Calgary Flames should look at Taylor Hall in free agency given reports of a trade that almost happened? What is the price before you can say it's too rich? How will the Calgary Flames fit him in the cap next season with players already committed and looking ahead? Many questions and possibilities to ponder if Taylor Hall becomes a free agent and would want him to be a Calgary Flame is the price is right and makes sense without sacrificing the existing core. Calgary Flames seemed to be close on a few trades that almost happened. Almost getting Jason Zucker from the Minnesota Wild or Nazem Kadri from the Toronto Maple Leafs. Now add Taylor Hall from the New Jersey Devils for the what if's given reports. Trade that actually happened: To Arizona Coyotes - LW/C Taylor Hall and C Blake Speers To New Jersey Devils - C Nick Merkely, C Nathan Schnarr, D Kevin Bahl, 2020 Conditional 1st Round Pick and 2021 Conditional 3rd Round Pick Conditions: New Jersey Devils retains 50% salary for Taylor Hall. Arizona's 2020 Conditional 1st Round Pick would go to 2021 if it's a top three selection (lottery protected). Arizona's 2021 Conditional 3rd Round Pick could be a 2nd if Arizona wins a playoff round or if Taylor Hall re-signs with Arizona. Arizona's 2021 Conditional 3rd Round Pick could be a 1st if Arizona wins a playoff round and Taylor Hall re-signs. Trade that almost happened: To Calgary Flames - LW/C Taylor Hall To New Jersey Devils - RW Sam Bennett, D Travis Harmonic and 2020 Conditional 1st Round Pick. Conditions: New Jersey Devils retains 50% salary for Taylor Hall. Calgary's 2020 Conditional Pick to depend on Taylor Hall re-signs with Calgary.
