Hertfordshire Senior League 2011 2012 Season. Codicote faced second place Met Police with the Bushey based side knowing a loss would hand the title to rivals Baldock Town. Codicote knew a win would help their chances of finishing third and boost their hopes of promotion. Leon Gutzmore came in at centre half for his Codicote debut to add some experience to a solid back 4 missing the injured Tawhid Junega. Versatile Alec Thomas came into midfield for the unavailable Mark Duckett with Ray Ancliff given a more forward roll. Codicote started the game in the same vein they have played in the concluding part of the season. They came out of the traps winning every ball and with an intensity the Police could not handle. David Iwedunio was colossal up front from the kick off drawing fouls and being a constant threat to a strong Police defensive unit. Codicotes first chance was a fine passing move involving the livewire pairing of Ancliff and Iweduino allowing the ball to be slipped through to Glenn Lamacraft only for the Met Police keeper to come out and dive and save at Lamacrafts feet. On 20 minutes Lamacraft was not to be denied after Iwedunio latched onto a forward pass he swiftly went past 2 covering defenders before pulling back to Lamacraft who arrived to drill the ball into the corner from 14 yards giving Codicote a deserved lead. The rest of the half continued in the same vein with Jordan Gibson in goal a virtual spectator. Hard working player manager Liam Errington broke up anything that the Police could offer with captain Ricky Bridge pushing his troops onwards. Full backs Michael Ettienne and James Taylor had the better of anything put down the wings with Kwame Asamoah continuing the fine run of form he has shown of late. Codicote couldn't manage to get a second and went in at half time 1-0 up. The second half started with Met Police making two attacking changes attempting to gain a strangle hold on the game. Codicote were in fine form though and as the Met Police passed from left to right in defence the Codicote side worked in unison across the pitch with the tireless running of strikers Ancliff and Iwedunio nullifying any attacking move Police could try to muster. Codicote looked rampant in attack and when Asamoah broke down the right beating his marker and covering defender he pulled the ball back for Alec Thomas to slot home for his first goal of the season which was well deserved for his hard work throughout the game. Codicote looked like scoring another to kill the game off but when Codicote had committed men forward and had 2 men over they were guilty of overplaying. Police broke well and after a great near post cross the Police number 9 couldn't guide his header into the near post, being a wakeup call for Codicote they could not go to sleep at any time. Asamoah was in rampant form down the right with Ancliff and Iwedunio going close as Codicote tried to finish the game off. Jamie Steel on for the tired Alec Thomas nearly scored from his first touch as he was put through the Police keeper did well saving Steel's low shot to his right. The third and important goal came after great work down the left from the impressive young substitute Steel, he slid the ball across the box for Kwame Asamoah to slam the ball home and end the title hopes of Met Police. Codicote must feel if they had this side from before October they would have been challenging for the title themselves. The game drew to a close with everyone of Codicotes players putting in an unbelievable amount of effort to keep the Police at bay. Alec Thomas was given the Specialist Stone man of the match but in all honesty it could have been any of the Codicote players who must be disappointed the season has come to a conclusion as they have hit a rich vein of form and look a formidable outfit. (Codicote F.C do not yet currently have floodlights at there own home ground, therefore evening matches are hosted at the Gosling Stadium in Welwyn Garden City).
Spartan South Midlands League (Premier Division) 2013-2014 Season.
Southern League Division One Central 2012-2013 season. Report (TheColdEnd): Boxing Day saw a local derby between the Towns of Biggleswade and Royston take place in the Evo Stik Southern League Central Division. Both teams have been promoted to Step 4 of the non-league ladder in recent seasons after being crowned champions of the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division. The Waders moved up in 2009 and finished in a respectable 12th place in their debut season. They then improved into a play-off place for 2010/11 finishing 4th and last season finished 8th. The play off season saw Daventry Town (whom lost to Hitchin Town in the final) beat them 2-0 in the semi-final. The Crows were champions of the SSML last season scoring an amazing 125 goals in 42 games of which 34 they won. They have adapted to life at a higher level with ease and are pushing for a play-off place along with Biggleswade Town. With the clubs geographically in close proximity to each other there were players whom had played for both sides on show and lots of handshakes prior to the kick off although if you'd missed this you wouldn't have known as there were tackles flying in from both sides in the opening exchanges. The Crows ex Barton Rovers midfielder Scott Spencer (number 6) was involved in a few and was booked. There wasn't much between the two sides with Biggleswade keeper Alex Taylor making a good save to keep the scores level. The Crows looked good when Biggleswade allowed them to pass it around with Kaan Fehmi (number 9) and Luke Robins (on the left...number 11) looking good up front. The game swung on Liam McDevitt's (another ex Barton Rovers player for Royston) red card midway through the first half. He tipped a goal bound shot over the bar his hand and was rightly sent off. The resulting penalty kick was well placed by Lee Allinson to make it 1-0. I never understand why players do this....Why not just let the goal in and play on with 11 men? Why chance getting sent off and a penalty which is nearly always scored and leave your team struggling with 10 men. Perhaps it's just instinct. The Waders were on top then and scored another through a great strike from the middle of the penalty box by The second half saw Royston come back into the game passing the ball around well and working hard with only ten men. They deserved their goal scored by Fehmi and were somewhat unlucky not to gain a point from the game. Biggleswade Town were very happy with the win which extended their unbeaten run in the league to eight games. The last time they were defeated was on Tuesday 23rd October to another ex Spartan League side in Aylesbury FC (2-3). The crowd of 205 was also their best of the season beating the 142 who saw them play Baton Rover on Saturday 10th November. They entertain second placed Rugby Town on Saturday in another important fixture for their play off and even title winning aspirations. Royston's league form has dropped in recent weeks (P5 W1 D1 L3 since the start of December) but with the quality of the squad assembled I'm sure they will be there or there abouts in the play-off mix up at the end of the season. They travel to Chalfont St Peter (another team recently promoted from the SSML) on Saturday. The Saints are currently in 15th place. It's very tight at the top of the table and no team is running away with the league title.
Ryman League Premier Division 2012-2013 Season. The Beachboys meet table-topping Hampton & Richmond Borough for a November night match in Essex.
PSF : Report (YourThurrock) - Tilbury's pre-season campaign took a dent on a warm sunny afternoon in Oxfordshire. Up against Southern League premier side Banbury and missing some important players, the Dockers conceded two goals in each half. Banbury had slightly the better of the opening and got the breakthrough on 27 minutes Adam Confue picked up the ball in the middle of the field and burst through the centre and with just the goalkeeper to beat he did so convincingly from just inside the penalty area. Seconds later defender Danny Smith had a good run and hit just wide of the post. It was 2-0 in the 41st minute when Aaron Woodley caught out the visiting defence with a run through on the right of the field and though he was denied by James Marrable in the Tilbury goal, the loose ball was centred across from the right by Confueto leave Ben Polk with a simple tap in right under the cross bar.At the break Tilbury were forced in to substitutions due to injury's and remained on the back foot. 2 minutes into the second half a long ball down the field was pounced on by Aaron Woodley who got in ahead of Sam West and he impressively slotted the ball past Marable to make it 3-0 Banbury were dominant at this point and chances fell to Confue and Ricky Johnson but were not taken. In the 68th minute Adeyinka Talabi was brought down in the penalty area for a very soft penalty Ricky Johnson converted the spot kick to make it 4-0 On 75 minutes a delightful chip from Ben Polk beat Marrable all ends up but the ball smashed against the bar and away to safety. On 84 Bradley Hooper almost pulled a goal back but was denied by a fine save. Three minutes from time a cross from the left by Lorraine saw Josh Blake get on the end of it but his shot came back off woodwork again. After the game Paul Vaughan said that his side were taught a lesson, but gives the coaching staff some things to work on. 5th May 2012 - Hitchin Town F.C players past & present take to Top Field once more. The current first XI are in the yellow home colours, past players in green away. Report: Hitchin Town F.C - The girths may have been a bit thicker and the pace may have come down a gear of two, but Hitchin's past players demonstrated they still have what it takes in an entertaining Canaries' Memorial Game. Predictably, the game ended in a draw, with the two teams sharing six goals. John Frendo gave the current side the lead on 11 minutes but folk hero Marvin Bates levelled after 17 and Arlesey manager Zema Abbey, who played around 100 games for the club between 1998-2000, scored for the past side three minutes later. Ieuan Lewis restored parity in the 27th minute. Marc Leach gave Carl Williams' men the lead on 49 minutes and then Dean Gilbert missed a penalty.
