Football is back! That's what they're all saying. And yes, sure enough I checked the fixture list and indeed the QPR Barnsley game, the postponement of which was the start of pandemic related lockdown for me, went ahead today. So you can imagine how excited I was to get down to the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium and take my seat again and watch my team. Oh yes! In all seriousness, this is satire, not clickbait. I am actually very angry that these games are going ahead before it's safe for fans to return. Why the leagues are so desperate to get results recorded now is a mystery to me. It's not as if it'll be safe to start next season as normal in August, so there wouldn't be time to run a full football season between August 2020 and May 2021 anyway. So why not just cancel that season, wait until it's safe to play the remaining games of this one, whether that means Novemember 2020 or even January 2021, and then be in a great position to start a proper full season in August 2021. But apparently not. Apparently the games themselves don't matter. The fans don't matter. The players don't matter. Stopping the spread of the virus through contact between players and ensuing chains of people doesn't matter. Only getting results logged matters. Don't worry about the fact that fans have been looking forward to the rescheduling of the games whose cancellation marked the start of an extremely difficult period in their lives, and certainly don't worry about how much of a carrot it was to be able to look forward to sitting in their seats and watching those games to mark life picking up where it left off, finally back to normal. So yes I'm very angry. But I took the opportunity to have a bit of fun. In this video I'm making fun of the idea that what happened today could possibly serve the purpose of a football match. I'm also making fun of myself and how it's not football for me unless I've travelled barefoot to the stadium and watched the game played right in front of my eyes. And I'm making fun of Youtube reaction video channels, and of course I'm making fun of TV and Televised Football in particular.
After a bad knock and lucky escape from what probably should have been a red card, Ingram saves a penalty at Griffin Park just before QPR go up the other end and right on half time. Ingram then goes off to be replaced by Alex Smithies. Job done for Matt Ingram
I've walked all the way from home to Griffin Park today. It was only about 2 1/4 miles and mostly across Gunnersbury Park (and the m4) and with weather like today's it was the obvious choice! Unlike at Fulham, I can look forward to safely standing all game today as my legs feel absolutely fine! Come on You Rs!
Sorry Jake. You've had decent a season and even played okish today. But this was puzzling to say the least!
Following the completion of the 10 miles walk for Tiger Feet 9, raising so far over £7500 for the local Downs Syndrome football team - the Tiger Cubs - I made it to Craven Cottage with two extremely muddy bare feet and a lot of pain and stiffness in my left leg. Plus it was bloody cold and snow had been coming down all day. After the game as I hobbled and limped back towards Fulham Palace Road, I was stopped by all kinds of people (sadly off camera) and even a couple of police officers to make sure I was ok. Very kind of them! I am going to try and make it to 3 out of QPR's remaining four away games - all three of which would be new grounds for this channel: Reading, Brentford and Leeds. The other game at Hull City wouldn't be a new addition but as it happens I don't think I can make the trip for that one anyway.
10 mile walk to Craven Cottage is complete and my feet are very muddy. Come on You Rs!
I've decided to do the Den again. Barefoot to South London on a cold December night to see out 2017. Hope you've had a great Christmas!
