The result eliminated Asians from the 2018 FIVB Men’s World Championship while Canada is still in the running for the second place in Pool G. In a somber mood after Friday’s debacle against co-hosts Bulgaria Iran failed to show up in the first set. The Asians had a disastrous kill rate of 43%, just one block point and even always reliable captain Marouf was out of sorts. And he was taken off after the second technical break as Canada pulled away for a 25-20 win. Roles were reversed in Set 2. Marouf was magnificent leaving his attackers often on a single block or even clean at the net. As a result the kill rate rose to 75% and Iranians tied the score after a 25-20 win. In the third set Canada made a blistering start winning 8 of the first 9 points and never looked back. The North Americans closed it 25-15 for their most comprehensive set win of the championship. Searching for an inspiration Iran head coach Igor Kolakovic rolled the dice with 17-year old Amir Toukhteh starting the fourth set. And he was rewarded for his faith. Iran was 16-18 behind when the youngster hit two consecutive aces to turn things around. The Asian team went on an 8-2 run and despite needing all of its set points won the set 25-23. Canada raced to a 5-1 lead in the tie-break but a scoreboard malfunction caused a stoppage of play. After the resumption Iran went on a 5-1 run of its own to tie the score. But Canada never trailed and a serve error by Ghafour on the second match point ended the thriller. Nicholas Hoag accounted for 29 of Canada points, John Gordon Perrin ended with 28. Once again Amir Ghafour led Iran in scoring, finishing with 24 points. About the FIVB The FIVB is the governing body responsible for all forms of volleyball on a global level. The Kazan players got into the game faster: they immediately made it difficult for their opponents to receive the ball, and Maxim Mikhailov was good in attack. However, his opponent, Maxim Sapozhkov, lost his first balls: he was blocked by Mikhail Labinsky and hit an out, forcing Konstantin Bryansky to take a timeout at a score of 2:7. The Kazan players were good in attack and maintained their lead. This continued until Labinsky was blocked twice (18:15). However, Mikhail soon redeemed himself by blocking Sapozhkov again – 23:19. Mikhailov put an end to the game. The debut of the second party was already in favor of Dynamo – 6:1. It was Sapozhkov who was reliable in attack, and he also single-handedly blocked Dmitry Volkov. After Labinsky's attack into out, Kazan's deficit increased to –6, and Alexey Verbov used his second timeout. When Volkov was again under Sapozhkov (6:13), he gave way to Andrei Surmachevsky on the court. And at the score of 10:17, Drazen Luburić replaced Mikhailov. They were unable to turn the tide of the game – the Kazan team made many mistakes in attack, while the Moscow team played almost flawlessly (88%). Volkov, who returned to the court after the break, was blocked twice in a row. Surmachevsky came in instead, but he was also blocked immediately, resulting in a score of 6:10. The Kazan team struggled to find their offensive game. With a score of 11:16, Verbolov made a double substitution, but Mikhail Vyshnikov also faced challenges in coordinating with his attackers, particularly in terms of first-tempo attacks. Dynamo had unstoppable setters Denis Bogdan and Anton Semyshev, who never made mistakes in attack. However, Zenit's setters were struggling. Volkov hit the antenna, and Labinsky was blocked by Pavel Pankov, resulting in a 4-7 score. Soon, the Moscow captain blocked Labinsky again, and Surmachevsky entered the game in his place. Dynamo had a significant advantage in terms of serving and blocking. At 11-15, Vyshnikov replaced Abaev, but the game's dynamics remained unchanged. Dynamo was superior in all aspects, especially in blocking (15-5). VFV - http://www.volley.ru/
