Post-Match Reaction: Arsenal vs. Liverpool 2-1 | TotalTactics Football Podcast Episode 14
In a game where Arteta opted for heavy rotation in preparation of the FA cup semi-final match vs Pep Guardiola's Manchester City side, Arsenal saw a victory after falling behind early from a well-worked Liverpool goal from Robertson, Mane, and Firmino. We saw Arsenal capitalise in the 2nd quarter of the game late in the 1st half with their pressing intensity and individual mistakes that are out of character from Virgil Van Dijk (VVD) and Alisson. This contributed to both players having their first error leading to a goal in the season, a slight shock for most viewers who have watched the last two seasons and the body of work of the Liverpool defence that has come with it. This was a large positive for an Arsenal side that opted for a new back-line today, making use of Tierney who was able to handle Salah's flank well, together with the help of Saka who defended mostly versus Trent Alexander Arnold (TAA). We also discuss the somewhat controversial yellow card today that was not further reviewed, in light of other historic VAR incidents in the Premier League this 2019/20 season. A key factor for today's win was the hunger of Lacazette, something we have seen consistently post-lockdown. He becomes the lynchpin for our discussion on Arsenal transfers outgoings and incoming, as well as who to lock down and keep. With Ceballos looking a likely buy, we discuss whether Arsenal has the finances to keep Lacazette given that the young Nketiah seems primed for his place in the side (despite his youth and inexperience), in consideration that Aubameyang is the top priority for Arsenal to keep. We tactically review and breakdown the North London Derby between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur that saw Arteta's men win at home with fantastic contributions through a specific focus on breaking down the right flank of Spurs with Doherty using Tierney and Emile Smith Rowe. Liverpool vs Chelsea 0-1 Analysis | Thomas Tuchel gets the best of Jurgen Klopp!
In this video we tactically analyse the matchup between Liverpool and Chelsea. Thomas Tuchel was able to get the best of his German counterpart, Jurgen Klopp, and helped Chelsea gain their 8th clean sheet in 10 games. Mason Mount scored the only goal of the game by getting at the end of N'Golo Kante's long pass and finishes the chance excellently against Fabinho and Alisson Becker. Timo Werner was able to break the deadlock thanks to a pass from Jorginho but VAR ruled out the goal. Sadio Mane had an excellent chance to give Liverpool the lead in the first half but was not able to finish Mohamed Salah's cross. Aston Villa vs Arsenal Tactical Analysis 1-0 | Watkins' Early Goal Sinks the Gunners!
Aston Villa maintain their European hopes up this season after defeating Arsenal 1-0 at Villa Park. The goal came after an early mistake by Cedric, who gave the ball away clumsily to Traore who assisted Ollie Watkins after. The possession was then primarily dominated by the Gunners who had some decent chances to equalise, however, Villa’s defence, commanded by Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa, was too solid. Additionally, Matty Cash and Emi Martinez had remarkable performances. Odegaard came in as a sub in the second half and showed tremendous promise, linking up well with Bukayo Saka and Nicolas Pepe. Ultimately, Arteta will be disappointed by the result, however, won’t be entirely displeased by the performance. In out most recent video, we tactically analyse Arsenal’s 3-1 victory over Southampton. Arteta’s men are in great form after their fifth Premier League win in six games which has boosted them all the way up to eighth place. The game started with a poorly defended corner, which led to Armstrong’s goal, however, the gunners did not take long to retaliate after Pepe, who was assisted by Xhaka, scored in the 8th minute. Bukayo Saka scored the second for Arsenal, proving once again that he is an extremely exciting prospect. Lacazette finished off the game for the gunners, after scoring the third, capitalising on his current form. Cedric and Leno also had particularly good games in defence.
