Wallace De Souza together with Luiz Felipe ‘Lipe’ Fonteles and Douglas Souza did their job right and led the South American team towards the all-important win. The players coached by Renan Dal Zotto collected three important points on the road to Turin. Brazil took advantage of the many unforced errors made by their opponents during the match, and were leading in the score for most of the time. However, they were not able to claim a comfortable advantage in the first two sets, since Australia’s players were able to play catch up almost all the time. The situation changed in the last set as the Brazilians showed their real face, thus producing a comprehensive 25-15 win. For Australia Lincoln Williams topped the charts as best scorer for his team, putting 16 points to his name. Australia started the matchup against the reigning Olympic champions without their captain – Paul Carroll. After Australia scored at the beginning of the match, Brazil, led by Wallace, responded with sharp attacks. However, Australia performed well at the net, breathing down Brazil’s necks at 5-4, but the first timeout came with the score standing at 8-5 for Brazil after an error by Williams. Both sides made errors from the service line before Australia levelled the score at 12 and again at 14-all after an ace by Williams. Wallace reacted properly, keeping on scoring, while Australia made some unforced errors to lose the first set at 21-25. Wallace opened the second set with another thunderous spike, but the Australian players responded with two aces to tie the score at 5-5 and even take the lead after a block by Nehemiah Mote. The players coached by Renan Dal Zotto took the lead at 16-13. The Volleyroos did not give up easily, and got closer after an ace by Williams for 19-18 and even equalised at 20-20 and 21-21. Douglas Souza, however, put an end to the set at 25-22 for Brazil. The third set unfolded with a close race in the first minutes, but Lipe did very well in attack. After scoring their 11th point, Brazil added five in a row to their tally to break away and eventually win the set at 25-15. The Kazan players got into the game faster: they immediately made it difficult for their opponents to receive the ball, and Maxim Mikhailov was good in attack. However, his opponent, Maxim Sapozhkov, lost his first balls: he was blocked by Mikhail Labinsky and hit an out, forcing Konstantin Bryansky to take a timeout at a score of 2:7. The Kazan players were good in attack and maintained their lead. This continued until Labinsky was blocked twice (18:15). However, Mikhail soon redeemed himself by blocking Sapozhkov again – 23:19. Mikhailov put an end to the game. The debut of the second party was already in favor of Dynamo – 6:1. It was Sapozhkov who was reliable in attack, and he also single-handedly blocked Dmitry Volkov. After Labinsky's attack into out, Kazan's deficit increased to –6, and Alexey Verbov used his second timeout. When Volkov was again under Sapozhkov (6:13), he gave way to Andrei Surmachevsky on the court. And at the score of 10:17, Drazen Luburić replaced Mikhailov. They were unable to turn the tide of the game – the Kazan team made many mistakes in attack, while the Moscow team played almost flawlessly (88%). Volkov, who returned to the court after the break, was blocked twice in a row. Surmachevsky came in instead, but he was also blocked immediately, resulting in a score of 6:10. The Kazan team struggled to find their offensive game. With a score of 11:16, Verbolov made a double substitution, but Mikhail Vyshnikov also faced challenges in coordinating with his attackers, particularly in terms of first-tempo attacks. Dynamo had unstoppable setters Denis Bogdan and Anton Semyshev, who never made mistakes in attack. However, Zenit's setters were struggling. Volkov hit the antenna, and Labinsky was blocked by Pavel Pankov, resulting in a 4-7 score. Soon, the Moscow captain blocked Labinsky again, and Surmachevsky entered the game in his place. Dynamo had a significant advantage in terms of serving and blocking. At 11-15, Vyshnikov replaced Abaev, but the game's dynamics remained unchanged. Dynamo was superior in all aspects, especially in blocking (15-5). VFV - http://www.volley.ru/
