MLR Pre-Season Week 8 News and Notes: Sabercats Emerge Victorious over NOLA Gold | The Hook 29
This past week saw tons of news items drop. And we continue to see games played within the league during the pre-season. The Houston Sabercats defeated the NOLA Gold 30-12 at Constellation Field in front of a crowd of almost 3,000. It was full of big hits. The field had capped players from both north and south of the US Border in Hubert Buydens and Eric Howard of Canada suiting up for the Gold. Kyle Sumsion and Pago Haini suiting up for Houston, and JP Eloff for the Gold. The USA Eagles were in Brazil, defeating the Tupis 16-45. It was a rough start and showed some holes in what would be called depth players in our program. With Malon Al Jiboori being recalled to Eagles 7s for Las Vegas HSBC Sevens Series Stop it has left the team pretty thin in the back row. There have been some late season signings with Dylan Fawsitt and Sam Figg joining Glendale Raptors. Joey Iosefa has joined the Houston Sabercats. The way I see the pre-season power rankings going into the season as I see it are: 1. Glendale Raptors 2. Houston SaberCats 3. NOLA Gold 4. Austin Elite Rugby 5. Utah Warriors 6. San Diego Legion 7. Seattle Seawolves. The current circumstances for Seattle are what drives that choice. However, they have the talent to compete.

The Glendale Raptors traveled to play NYAC where Luke White took a red card. NYAC still defeated the AC playing 14 on 15 for for the entirety of the second half. Utah Warriors hosted the Ontario Arrows, they grew somewhat, we're starting to see their massive back line dominate. Yet they need some help in the set piece. Houston Sabercats traveled to the San Diego Legion, scoring 26 of their 33 points in the second half showing their killer instinct. Austin hosted NOLA in a loss but they grew tremendously in that first half. Playing it out in a grudge match. But the second half was all for the Gold.
