With their second win in the competition, the visitors were smooth and confident from start to end, moving to within one point of Group A leaders Paris St-Germain. City had been in command from the start, but it took until the 30th minute for Joao Cancelo to grab on to Phil Foden's wonderful ball and slot it past former Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet. After being fouled, Mahrez added a second goal from the penalty spot soon before halftime. The third goal came swiftly in the second half, when Mahrez found Kevin de Bruyne, whose one-touch ball sent Kyle Walker through, and the full-back shot into the far corner. Palmer, a 19-year-old academy graduate, scored his team's fourth goal just two minutes after entering the game, curling a superb shot into the net from the edge of the box. For the hosts, Hans Vanaken headed home a late cross, but City scored their fifth goal almost immediately, with Riyad Mahrez bursting through and scoring coolly one-on-one. City's win was the perfect answer to their earlier Champions League defeat at PSG, as they moved to six points from three games. Guardiola had named a strong XI for the trip to Belgium after losing 2-0 at PSG on September 28. He had demonstrated his ambition to bounce back to winning ways in the Champions League immediately by picking a strong XI for the trip. The choice to deploy Foden as a false nine in what was his first start in the competition this season did, however, raise some eyebrows. Foden's manager, Pep Guardiola, has already indicated that finding a position for him will never be a problem because he can play anywhere, and the England international has once again demonstrated his manager's faith in his ability to execute in any situation.
