Terron Armstead A Big Loss, But Wil Lutz, Tre'Quan Smith Could Be Key Returns For New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints claimed a statement win in Foxborough against the New England Patriots, but lost yet another key player for extended time after star tackle Terron Armstead suffered an elbow injury. Armstead is expected to miss three to six weeks and thus could go to injured reserve. Expect James Hurst to step into his role in his stead. While the Saints may be adding another name to IR, five players are now eligible to return, depending on their injury recovery. Wil Lutz and Tre'Quan Smith could be two important players making their way back to the active roster in the coming weeks. Nick Vannet, Will Clapp, and Ken Crawley could all be of great value as well. The Saints are finally back in the Big Easy and excited to get back to their long-awaited Caesars Superdome opener. This will be the first fully-attended New Orleans Saints game since the January 5th, 2020 playoff exit against the Minnesota Vikings. The Who Dat Nation is ready to make some noise and a top-5 NFL defense will be ready for their help. The Saints knocked the Patriots down some key efficiency rankings on the offensive side. However, the Saints and Giants are evenly matched on offensive efficiency so for this season. The difference? The Saints will be facing the Giants 28th ranked defense in terms of efficiency while New York may struggle to topple the 2nd ranked unit in New Orleans. This could be a good opportunity for the Saints offense to kick into gear. But the biggest reason for this highly ranked Saints team comes down to the stars on the defense. Marshon Lattimore, Demario Davis, Marcus Williams, and others have led the way to start the season allowing only 14 points per game. New Orleans Saints' Offseason Focus Should Be On Reloading Wide Receiver Room
New Orleans Saints' Offseason Focus Should Be On Reloading Wide Receiver Room

The New Orleans Saints defied the odds in 2021, but looking ahead to 2022, the offensive struggles cannot persist. Particularly in the passing game. Rookie cornerback Paulson Adebo and the Saints' retooling of the cornerback position should be an indication of how impactful the team can be if they do focus on this high-value position, even if Michael Thomas is expected to return from his injury. Alabama Wide Receiver Jameson Williams was easily the top WR on many NFL Draft evaluator boards. But now that he's suffered an ACL injury, it could potentially impact the availability of other top wideout prospects like Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson, Drake London, and Treylon Burks. With the Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins, and Denver Broncos all in the head coaching search, could the Saints lose defensive coordinator Dennis Allen this offseason? He and assistant GM/director of college scouting Jeff Ireland should be hot names in the searches around the NFL following Black Monday and the coach firings around the league. New Orleans Saints Miss Playoffs But Affirm Bright Future With Convincing Win
New Orleans Saints Miss Playoffs But Affirm Bright Future With Convincing Win

The New Orleans Saints might not be postseason bound, but they did enough in Atlanta to handle their business and remind their players, future players, and others paying attention of their competitive spirit and winning culture. Between loosing Drew Brees, chopping down the salary cap, replacing players at just about every position, a record-breaking 58 unique starters, Hurricane Ida, and COVID outbreaks, the New Orleans Saints went through the ringer. But whether it was Jameis Winston, Taysom Hill, Tevor Siemian, or Ian Book under center, Sean Payton was prepared and ready to compete - a clear Coach of the Year candidate. Cam Jordan, Kwon Alexander, Alvin Kamara, and Marcus Davenport - among others - all had standout performances in the Saints' 30-20 victory over the rival Atlanta Falcons. Although the Los Angeles Rams couldn't hold up their end of the bargain and the Saints will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2017, New Orleans needs not be pitied. As the team proved itself to be one of the most competitive and resilient rosters in the NFL. Offseason storylines are on the way. Will Dennis Allen be the Saints defensive coordinator? Will the Saints be able to keep Marcus Williams? What's happening at quarterback? All just part of what is setting up to be a very intriguing offseason in the Big Easy. New Orleans Saints Have To Handle Business Against The Atlanta Falcons
New Orleans Saints Have To Handle Business Against The Atlanta Falcons

The New Orleans Saints are one win and little help away from another playoff performance. What Alvin Kamra, Taysom Hill, Cam Jordan, and other Saints stars need to do to get a win against the Atlanta Falcons with a little help from the Los Angeles Rams. Pre-snap conflict, sheer want and will all factor in to what the Saints have to do on the offensive side as is the health of the o-line with Terron Armstead, Erik McCoy, and Ryan Ramczyk. Cam Jordan, Marcus Davenport, and David Onyemata look to pressure Matt Ryan and eliminate the run game while looking to limit the big plays to Kyle Pitts and Cordarrelle Patterson. Ricardo LeCompte of WWLTV joins to talk Sean Payton, Saints chances against the Falcons, and a potential matchup with the Los Angeles Rams if they make the playoffs.
