9: The most often retired jersey number in the National Hockey League. In March, 2022, the Minnesota Wild will retired the number 9 of Mikko Koivu. This will mark the 14th time the number has been taken out of circulation by a NHL club. The first was Maurice Richard by the Montreal Canadiens in 1960. The usual suspects followed in Johnny Bucyk, Gordie Howe and Bobby Hull. The Toronto Maple Leafs honoured both Charlie Conacher and Ted Kennedy when they retired the number in 2016.
