LSU Basketball The LSU Tigers defeated the Georgia Bulldogs by a score of 94-64 on Saturday afternoon at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The Tigers finish the regular season with a record of 21-10, 12-6 in conference play. The Senior Class of 2020 was honored prior to the game as Marlon Taylor, Skylar Mays, Marshall Graves and the late Wayde Sims received standing ovations from the crowd of 11,697 at the Maravich Center. Sims was represented by his parents, former LSU basketball player Wayne Sims and his wife Fay. Taylor had a career high of 30 points, hitting 10-of-17 shots including three treys and 7-of-9 at the free throw line. Mays just missed a third straight 20-plus point game with a solid 19, hitting 7-of-11 field goals, three treys and two free throws. Graves got his first career start on senior tribute day and scored five points on 2-of-3 shooting with a trey. Ironically Graves' three-pointer came with 44 (Wayde Sims' number) seconds remaining and gave LSU its biggest lead of the night at 32. LSU landed the No. 3 seed in the SEC Tournament and will play their first game on Friday, March 13. The Tigers will play the winner of Vanderbilt/Arkansas vs. South Carolina. LSU Baseball Weekend Friday: LSU erupted for 11 runs from the third through the sixth inning Friday night at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman field to take an 11-2 win over UMass Lowell in the first game of the weekend series. Saturday: The Tigers kept the offense rolling with a 12-2 win on Saturday. Sunday: Designated hitter Gavin launched two two-run homers to help the No. 20 Tigers finish off the weekend sweep with a 6-4 win over UMASS Lowell on Sunday. Freshman outfielder and safety Maurice Hampton Jr. will be "out for quite awhile" with a stress reaction in his back, coach Paul Mainieri said Sunday afternoon. LSU is back on the field vs South Alabama on Wednesday before a weekend series at Ole Miss. LSU Football The LSU Board of Supervisors met Friday afternoon and approved the new contracts for head coach Ed Orgeron and new defensive coordinator Bo Pelini. Orgeron's six-year contract extension is worth about $41 million, and Pelini has received a three-year, $2.3 million per year contract. The contracts for passing game coordinator Scott Linehan, defensive backs coach Corey Raymond, running backs coach Kevin Faulk and Bill Johnson will go before the board at its next meeting on April 23. LSU had their first spring practice on Saturday. LSU Beach Volleyball The No. 1 ranked LSU Beach Volleyball team extended its win streak to 11 matches Saturday at the TCU Beach Volleyball Courts, sweeping both Missouri State and UAB. The Tigers went 4-0 this weekend at TCU's Fight at the Fort with Friday wins against No. 17 Arizona and No. 16 TCU as well. LSU has not dropped a match since the opening day of the season. Next Friday and Saturday the Tigers will be back at LSU Beach Volleyball Stadium for three more matches. LSU will face Spring Hill College on Friday and then will have matches against Southern Mississippi and Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday. New Orleans Pelicans Friday: Brandon Ingram overcame a poor shooting performance that included missing 15 of his first 17 shots by scoring five points in the final 62 seconds to help the New Orleans Pelicans hold off the Miami Heat 110-104 on Friday night. Sunday: Jrue Holiday just missed his second triple-double against Minnesota in less than a week, putting up a season-high 37 points and adding nine rebounds and eight assists for the New Orleans Pelicans in a 120-107 victory over the Timberwolves on Sunday. New Orleans Saints Saints putting money where their mouth is: they're planning to place 1st-round tender on restricted FA QB Taysom Hill, per source, meaning NO will have a chance to match any offer sheet he signs with another team or get back a first-round pick. Saints plan to re-sign him soon anyway.
