Jeremy Hefner is in his second season as the pitching coach for the New York Mets. He was originally selected in the fifth round of the 2007 MLB Amateur Draft by the San Diego Padres. After five seasons in the minor leagues, he was claimed off waivers by the Pirates, and then again claimed off waivers by the Mets. He made his MLB debut in April 2012. After two seasons of pitching with the Mets, Hefner underwent two Tommy John surgeries and after pitching the 2016 season with the St. Louis Cardinals organization, he announced his retirement from pro baseball in January 2017.
