Listen: Tom Curry accuses South Africa's Bongi Mbonambi of racist slur at Rugby World Cup match

England flanker Tom Curry alleged to referee Ben O’Keeffe that South Africa hooker Bongi Mbonambi called him a “white c---” during the Springboks’ World Cup semi-final victory. The incident occurred just before the half-hour mark with England leading 9-3 as Curry approached O’Keeffe, the New Zealand official. On the referee’s microphone, Curry can be clearly heard asking, “Sir, Sir, if their hooker calls me a white c--- what do I do?” O’Keeffe replies: “Nothing please.” He then adds “I will be on it” although it is not clear if this in reference to Curry’s complaint, but he takes no action against Mbonambi. There is no audible evidence of Mbonambi’s alleged abuse. After the final whistle, Mbonambi refused to shake Curry’s hand. Following the game the Sale Sharks openside was asked if Mbonambi said something he should not have, he replied, “yeah” but would not confirm the exact details. “It does not need to be talked about.” Read more: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/rugby-union/2023/10/22/tom-curry-south-africa-bongi-mbonambi-racism-accusations/ #rugbyworldcup #england #southafrica #BongiMbonambi #TomCurry #slur Subscribe to The Telegraph with our special offer: just £1 for 3 months. Listen | PGMOL releases VAR audio from Liverpool's disallowed goal against Spurs

The PGMOL has released audio conversations between Video Assistant Referee officials laying bare the panic that set in after Luis Diaz’s goal was wrongly disallowed during Liverpool’s defeat at Tottenham. Var Darren England is heard saying “oh f---” seconds after play restarted, having mistakenly thought Diaz’s goal had been given by the on-field officials. England checked for offside thinking the goal had been given, as said check complete after replays showed Diaz was clearly onside. On-pitch referee Simon Hooper took that as his cue to resume play with a Spurs free-kick. England then repeats that he “cannot do anything” once play was restarted as colleagues urge that the game be paused. Liverpool were sent the audio by the Premier League on Tuesday. US Open fan ejected for saying "the most Hitler phrase there is" at German player

A tennis fan was ejected from the US Open on Monday night after being accused by Germany’s Alexander Zverev of shouting “the most famous Hitler phrase there is in this world”. The incident happened during Zverev’s victory over Italy’s Jannik Sinner on Arthur Ashe Stadium during the late-night slot, which has often been criticised for overly boisterous atmospheres. Having taken a 2-1 lead into the fourth set, Zverev was serving at 2-2 and 0-15 in the fifth game when he suddenly stopped his motion and approached the chair umpire James Keothavong. "He just said the most famous Hitler phrase there is in this world," Zverev told the umpire of a fan in the stands to his left. "This is unbelievable." #us #tennis #hitler Read the full story: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/tennis/2023/09/05/us-open-fan-ejected-for-using-hitler-phrase-against-zverev/ Subscribe to The Telegraph with our special offer: just £1 for 3 months.
