I will give my opinion on this reasoning and also tell you two other reasons why Mr. Phillips may have voted the way he did. On Friday, January 14, 2022, ACC Commissioner, Jim Phillips talked with the media via conference call and laid out why he does not currently support expanding the College Football Playoff. Among the reasons are concerns about layer health & safety, an extended season impacting academics, and all the other chaos surrounding college athletics. Some fans believe that this move by the ACC is a ploy to try and force Notre Dame to join the conference in football.
