The Colorado Avalanche had a memorable first game against the Seattle Kraken. Many expected to see former Avalanche goalie Philipp Grubauer face his former team. But it was announced prior to the game he would not get the start. However, four early goals lead to a goalie change and Grubauer had no choice but to face his former team. This game was all Avalanche. They were clearly the better team, and it showed. Prior to the game the Avs announced a two year extension for head coach Jared Bednar.
