The neutral zone trap is a defensive strategy used in ice hockey to prevent an opposing team from proceeding through the neutral zone (the area between the blue lines) to force turnovers. The strategy is generally used to level the playing field for teams that are not as offensively talented as their opponents, although the trap can also be used by teams simply looking to protect a lead late in the game.

Trap line (spiders)

A trap line is used by some orb weaver spiders as a mechanism to alert them of a newly captured prey in their web.They spin a line of silk and attach it to the center of the web. The spider then stays near it and waits for their prey, most likely a small insect such as a fly or mosquito, to stick to their web.
