The rivalry between Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren started years before the NBA at the 2021 FIBA U19 World Cup, when Team USA barely defeated France 83-81 in the championship game and Holmgren won tournament MVP over Wemby. In Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals, Victor Wembanyama delivered an all-time playoff performance with 41 points, 24 rebounds, clutch blocks, a huge game-tying three, and a vicious dunk over Holmgren to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 122-115 double-overtime win over OKC. Meanwhile, Holmgren struggled with just 8 points and 8 rebounds as Wemby completely took over the game and stole the spotlight from his longtime rival.
