Das DFB-Team hat das Spiel zwar klar kontrolliert, war aber zu inkonsequent im Zuspiel und Abschluss. Die deutsche Nationalmannschaft ließ vor ausverkauften Rängen in Sinsheim keine Zweifel an der klaren Favoritenrolle. Die erste Tormöglichkeit vergab Timo Werner. Die deutsche Sturmspitze bekam den Ball von Youngster Jamal Musiala, schoss aber über das Tor Israels hinaus (12. Minute). Knapp eine halbe Stunde gespielt und Kai Havertz mit der bis dato größten Chance, das deutsche Team in Führung zu schießen: Julian Draxler brachte per Kopf den Ball zu Havertz, doch Ofir Marciano parierte (28.). Kurz darauf wieder Havertz, der in den gegnerischen Strafraum eindrang, auf Ilkay Gündogan ablegte, der Schuss des Manchester-City-Spielers aber zu unpräzise und direkt in die Hände von Marciano (33.). Havertz drängte weiter auf den Führungstreffer. Nach einer Ecksituation, ausgeführt von David Raum, köpft der Chelsea-Stürmer zur 1:0-Führung. Kurz vor Ende der ersten Halbzeit erhöhte Werner die deutsche Führung auf 2:0. Nach Foul an Musiala führt Gündogan den Strafstoß aus und Werner tippt den Ball ins Tor (45.). Kurz nach Wiederanpfiff bediente Raum mit weitem Ball von außen Draxler, der aber den Ball weit über das Tor hinaussetzt (49.). Anschließend legte Werner zwar den Ball im Tor ab, doch der war im Abseits. Nach einer abgewehrten Flanke landete der Ball direkt vor Thilo Kehrer, doch seine Direktabnahme konnte Marciano parieren (60.). Israels Torhüter bewahrte sein Team fast im Alleingang vor einem höheren Rückstand. In der 63. Minute feierte Anton Stach (Mainz 05) sein Debüt, er kam für Julian Weigl. Draxler scheitert aus zentraler Position am israelischen Schlussmann Marciano (68.). Kurz vor Ablauf der regulären Spielzeit wurde der für Havertz eingewechselte Lukas Nmecha im Strafraum gefoult, Thomas Müller – eingewechselt für Gündogan – schoss den Elfmeter an den rechten Außenpfosten (89.). In der Nachspielzeit erhielt Israel die Möglichkeit für den Anschlusstreffer. Schlotterbreck patzte und foulte Yonatann Cohen kurz vor dem deutschen Tor, doch Kevin Trapp – konnte den Elfmeter parieren (90. +4).
