Welcome back!! It’s the weekend of the Welsh Cup first round proper (third round total) and on Friday night I went to what looked like the stand out tie, Caldicot Town vs Penparcau. Caldicot Town play in the new Ardal league South East section (tier 3 of the Welsh football pyramid) and the visitors Penparcau play in the new Ardal league North East section (also tier 3 of the pyramid …. *apologies to Penparcau, in the vlog I said Caldicot were playing at a higher level than them, that was factually incorrect and I’m sorry. For some reason I thought you were in the mid wales league) As the vlog title says it was an absolutely belting game of football for a neutral like me, although I can’t imagine either side enjoyed the full 90 minutes like I did. The son of a mining captain, and born in the mining heartland of Cornwall, Trevithick was immersed in mining and engineering from an early age. Merthyr Tramroad
The Merthyr Tramroad was a 9.75 miles (15.69 km) long line that opened in 1802, connecting the private lines belonging to the Dowlais and Penydarren Ironworks with the Glamorganshire Canal at Abercynon, also serving the Plymouth Ironworks along the way. Famous as the line on which Richard Trevithick's experimental locomotive hauled the first train to carry a load (of 10 tons of iron).

The Caldicot and Wentloog Levels are two areas of low-lying estuarine alluvial wetland and intertidal mudflats adjoining the north bank of the Severn Estuary, either side of the River Usk estuary near Newport in south east Wales. They are also known collectively as the Monmouthshire Levels or Gwent Levels, and the name Wentloog is sometimes spelled Wentlooge in official publications.
