Mendrisio is a municipality in the district of Mendrisio in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. Mendrisio is the seat of the Accademia di Architettura of the university of Italian-speaking Switzerland (USI).

The Mendrisio District is the southernmost district of canton of Ticino and of Switzerland. To its north lies the Lugano District.

Mendrisio railway station is a railway station in the Swiss canton of Ticino and municipality of Mendrisio. The station is on the Swiss Federal Railways Gotthard railway, between Lugano and Chiasso, and is also the junction for the Mendrisio–Stabio railway, currently only used for freight traffic, but being rebuilt as an international connection to Varese.The station is served by trains on line S10 of the Treni Regionali Ticino Lombardia , which operate every half-hour between Bellinzona, Lugano and Chiasso, with some trains extending northwards to Airolo and southwards to Milan.

The Mendrisio–Stabio railway is a railway line in Ticino, Switzerland. It was opened in 1926 as part of the international Valmorea railway, but only two years later the border crossing was closed by the Italian government, which didn't agree with a privately owned international connection .
