Mendrisio is a municipality in the district of Mendrisio in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. Mendrisio is the seat of the Accademia di Architettura of the university of Italian-speaking Switzerland (USI).

The station is on the Swiss Federal Railways Gotthard railway, between Lugano and Chiasso, and is also the junction for the Mendrisio–Stabio railway, currently only used for freight traffic, but being rebuilt as an international connection to Varese.The station is served by trains on line S10 of the Treni Regionali Ticino Lombardia , which operate every half-hour between Bellinzona, Lugano and Chiasso, with some trains extending northwards to Airolo and southwards to Milan.
