The Retrievers play their home games at UMBC Stadium, located in Baltimore, Maryland with a capacity of 4,500 spectators.

The UMBC Retrievers men's basketball team represents the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I competition as a member of the America East Conference. UMBC made its first Division I postseason appearance in the NCAA tournament in 2008, in which it qualified by winning the America East Conference Tournament.

The UMBC Retrievers women's volleyball program represents the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in NCAA Division I women's volleyball. On February 19, 2018, UMBC hired former Duke Blue Devils assistant coach Cristina Robertson as the sixth head coach in the program's 45-year history.
